They were like the Pied Piper, with a bunch of bicyclists pedaling behind.
I love how the truck even came with the requisite dalmatian.
Nothing like having your own pooper scooper. How's that for a dream job? I'm pretty sure I'm kidding.
The equines eventually went down Duval St. where the driver(s) delivered a plaque and a case of beer to various local bars.

The Clydesdales are here as part of the Naval Air Station (NAS) Southernmost Air Spectacular, in other words air show, featuring the US Navy Blue Angels who will be flying overhead this weekend. It'll be the last show they give country-wide thanks to the federal government's sequester stupidity. They were practicing yesterday.

We don't have a way to get to Boca Chica, so will probably miss this unless they fly right over us. Here's what it looks like from the pilot point of view though.

Can anyone look at those pictures and not think of the "Danger Zone" song from the movie Top Gun?
Weather-wise, we've gone from the 60°s with "real feels" in the low 50°s to 80°s with a real feel of 90°+. We'll take that over the cold any day. It does look like temps might come down a bit next week, but it's going to be a warm weekend.
We had our first downpour in months Monday night, and although we needed it, are a little worried that more rain will bring on the monster mosquitoes, the Gallinippers (meaning they seem to drink a gallon of blood each bite) predicted this year. I'm hoping they stay in the upper Keys. Let's see...They're so big, you feel them when they land on you. The bites hurt and they're around all day/night. They bite through your clothes. They go after pets. Bug spray doesn't work on them. Nooooo! Apparently, a strain of dengue fever specific to Key West is also going around. Where are bats when you need them? I don't overly worry about this stuff, but if you do, you might want to douse yourself with your favorite bug repellent and hope for the best. To me, it's a choice of poisoning myself everyday with DDT, wasting money on natural remedies that never work, or just hoping I don't get bit. I usually choose the latter. If those big suckers do come though, maybe I'll start eating hot sauce and smoking cigars (or at least wave them around). That works right?![]() |
| It's not a monster mosquito, but the feeling is the same. Shiver. |

Among other things, I'm a blogger. My last one was
Oy. Never heard of Gallinippers before but they sound downright nasty. We get some pretty big bugs in around Panama but nothing like that.

Well, let's hope they don't come here. When we first got here and drove back from Ikea, we had to stop and do some truck load adjustments right next to the Everglades. Holy cow! We could not get back in the truck fast enough!
