Road Trip

How in the heck did we ever do without the internet? On Friday night, Michael was emptying the last of the rosé wine into my TGIF glass and spilled some on the couch. We weren't overly worried about it until we lifted the sheet we had down for protection and saw a big blue stain on the once pristine white cushion. %@*! Why would rosé/red wine stain blue? I jumped up and got online, while Michael ripped the cushion cover off and shoved it under cold water in the kitchen sink. Soap - no change. Baking soda - no change. Oxy Stain Remover - nada. By then, I had hit upon a chat group that was talking about various solutions: white wine, salt.... Michael grabbed white cooking wine and poured it over the stain before I could confirm that the solution might actually work, and lo and behold - the blue stain disappeared within seconds. It was like magic. We high-fived each other, did a little jig around the computer, and threw the cover into the washing machine. It came out as good as new. Nifty. Now where were we? Cheers!

This morning's challenge was to figure out how to change the time on my wristwatch. I don't have the manual and couldn't get any of my button combos to work. Computer - How do I change the time on my watch? I just have to hold the top button down, and...Well, thank you. I no longer have to add an hour every time I look at it.

It's finally safe to open the windows again without shivering, so we thought maybe we'd take a little road trip today. Someone had recommended Boca Chica beach to us, and figured we'd check it out. An online search called it "seedy," possibly sea-weedy, buggy, and for "naked guys," but we thought we'd go anyway. It was either at mile marker 8 or 10. We thought the speed limit was 45, which was as fast as our moped could go, so figured we were cool.

First we got 2 blocks and realized it was really windy and it was a cold wind. Good if you're on a hot beach; nippy if on a moped. I had to throw on Michael's rain/wind jacket. Ok - now we're all set. Until we discovered the speed limit was 55mph. Crap. Michael was starting to feel a little overwhelmed by the cars flying past us (accidents here are very common place) and by MM9 (we started at MM 2), we still hadn't found the turn off to the right road, so we decided to turn around. I'm sure we were close, but it wasn't worth Michael's discomfort. You can read here someone else's write-up of the place a few years ago.

Smathers Crowd
Once back on Key West, we were curious how crowded the beaches were with spring-break revelers and found that most were at Fort Zachary or Smather's Beach.  It was almost like looking at a bunch of tall, colorful, wingless seagulls.  There were fewer people at the farthest end of the beach (where all the stinky seaweed is) and even less at Higgs beach.

Smathers Far End
Higgs Beach - where everybody be?
I guess if we want to hit the beach next weekend, that's where we'll go (spring break is all month).  The forecast is still for nippy nights (getting cooler as the week goes on), but the days are pretty nice. Beats snow.

I'm going to get a library card tomorrow. I'm planning a trip to Belize this summer, so if anyone has any input on that country, do share.
