About me
Among other things, I'm a blogger. My last one was Island Babble about our life in the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. We (me, my husband and our two kitties) moved to Key West in September 2012 and figured we'd embarrass ourselves some more by posting our antics in a new blog.

We're straddling two paid-for places right now, but will be moving into the long-term one as soon as we start accumulating furniture and other things you need to live - like silverware, towels, pillows....Good luck to your son. You're right, the rents are amazing. We definitely miss our St. Kitts digs. Oh well, I suppose that's life. We adapt! Ask away if you need anything. DeleteIn your book, a sail of two idiots under nautical mumbo jumbo, you state Aft means forward. Aft does not mean forward at all, it means towards the stern. Where did you come up with aft means forward. Perhaps a little more research is warranted.
ReplyDeleteI know, it was just a mistake. There were a couple of others sprinkled throughout despite going through 3 different edits and editors. They were corrected in the 2nd printing. Thanks for alerting me though, I've appreciated all the feedback and thank you for purchasing the book. I hope some of the other stuff was helpful. I wish you smooth sailing in 2013, whether on the sea or off.
DeleteRenee, Everyone makes mistakes! I just wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoyed your book, A Sail of Two Idiots. I laughed and turned beet red, especially in your Abaco's memories. My husband and I bought our boat (trawler-Nordhavn 50) the year before you bought Jacumba. We also had zero experience of boat ownership and had only chartered before taking the plunge. Although a 50' was rather ambitious, I've no regrets! We still have her! A brief stint in SoCarolina and then maintenance later in the fall back in Palm Beach Gardens, we departed Palm Beach for the Abaco's with an experienced Captain (James Knight) who was also familiar with our boat brand. We arrived Marsh Harbour to astoundingly chilly 40 degree temps, wind and rain!! James left the following day (couldn't take the cold!)and we've been on our own since. Currently we are in Jamaica and have enjoyed the Western Caribbean for the last 4 years (summering in Guatemala-Rio Dulce). So many funny, scary, exciting stories too. Just loved reading yours and admire your talent with words as well as your humorous outlook. Best to you and Michael!
ReplyDeleteWow Mary, That's really crazy how similar our initial Abacos stories were. Not too many people have written about their Western Caribbean adventures, particularly on trawlers - break out that pen! Or iPod. Or whatever. I wish we'd made it over there, but we were happy with our island choice. I appreciate the book purchase and shout out. Kudos to you and your husband for making it work and continuing to find enjoyment in that tropical living. Once you've got a taste of it, it's hard to give it up. We shall return!
