Settling In

I have to say that this has been an interesting trip so far. It really is as if we (I) never left. There was no return like a rock star - Oooh, Renee/Kendra (my island name) is back, we have to throw a big party with everyone she ever knew and get blitzed!! - it's been really low key. I just slowly run into friends as we all go about our business. Just like normal. Anyone going for a walk? Hitting the beach? Going hiking? Well, look who's at the grocery store or walking their dog in the opposite direction? ... I love it.

Meanwhile, I missed lots of rain back in Key West and even deeper flooding than the last time. It seems rather shocking (and a tad inconvenient), but the store owners seem to brush it off. One posted on Facebook that that's why they wear flip flops and Crocs -  not to worry. (Thanks to Joe McCarty for the photos.)

Hard to ride that way.
Looks like Venice in November.
The water tends to drain surprisingly quickly, but I'm glad we don't live in that area (although we're not that far from it). It's been sort of overcast in a misty kind of way here in St. Kitts, but in general, it's been pretty nice. Last night, we had some big pouffy clouds that scared me a bit,
but after one very windy storm cell passed through, the rest of the night was rather quiet.

My sleep schedule is way off for some reason. It's not like I'm in another time zone or something, but I keep falling asleep early and waking up way before the sun comes up (like 4:30 a.m.). By the time it's 10 a.m., I'm thinking it should be mid afternoon or something I've been up so long. It's great taking Betsy for a walk though because no one else is up, and I can let her run free (even if it's a slow trot behind me). She'll have to readjust in a couple of weeks when her life goes back to its regular programming. I'm pretty sure she's going to be incredibly happy to be done with me. She is really struggling with our walks that are tougher than she's used to. She poops out so hard, she snores big time. I brought a toy for the cat too, and we play until she's zonked. I take my job as petsitter very seriously.
