Steamy Weekend

This morning was the 7 Mile Bridge Run.  I had thought it might be fun to do, but it turned out that it is a very popular race. When online reservations open up, wannabe runners pounce on their keyboards, and within minutes, the coveted 1,500 places are filled.
I didn't see anyone that
looked like this though.
I think a lottery was made available this time too. I wasn't that into it, so didn't get into the frenzy. Hopefully anyone who had to get to the Miami airport from the Keys this morning knew about this event because the road was closed from 6:45am to 9am. If you were on the lower Keys, you were staying on the lower Keys until the last person ran across the finish line. I did a 6-mile run in solidarity and was drenched by the time it was over. We're 10 degrees above where we're supposed to be (we're breaking records for overly high lows) and it is very humid. My sunglasses fogged up. Every person I ran past today was drenched. There were a surprising amount of white wet t-shirts out there.

Yep - I looked just like that.
For the first time ever, anyplace we've lived, we had to turn the a/c on in April. I tried valiantly not to do it, allowing sweat to drip into my eyes as I vacuumed the 3 minutes it takes to cover the tiny apartment yesterday, but by last night it was like a sauna in here. The cats had planted themselves under the ceiling fan and hadn't moved for hours. Watching them come back to life was like watching a reverse taping of a flower wilting. Does this mean summer is upon us?

Last weekend, I plopped down to stretch out a sore back (I've changed my workout routine) and this happened. Knowing Jack was smushed against my face and feeling Zura down by my knee, I asked Michael to take a picture. Do these cats know how to relax or what? I'm pretty down with it too.

There's a 15K race around the island tomorrow and apparently Islamorada is having a big weekend too, but we don't have any way to get up there. We might just head to a beach and veg for the day. Next weekend the Independence Day stuff starts. There might be a chance of the Coast Guard's participation after all - as long as the guys & gals in uniform are willing to volunteer their time. We shall see. Michael and his coworker are going to have to start working on their bed for the bed race. Yep, gonna be interesting.

FYI: Monday's feel-like temp: 93 degrees. Yikes.
