Rays!

Our skin doesn't know what hit it. We haven't been in our bathing suits in 5 months. We've gotten a little pale. I have to admit it felt reeaaaalllly good to pinken up a bit. I think we need to invest in beach towels or reclining chairs though.

While soaking up some rays, we eventually heard some shooting and went to take a look at the civil war reenactment at the fort.

I've mentioned this before, but the Key West forts were the only ones in the deep south to remain in Union hands. It wasn't that the Floridians actually sided with the North, as a matter of fact, they had voted to secede from the Union, but the Federal government had taken over the forts here and was on the side of the Union soldiers. The 21st-century costumed guys (and a couple of gals) went all out and even camped in old-fashioned tents from back in the day.

The fighting wasn't quite as hectic as I thought it would be. There weren't any boats at sea with cannons aimed at us; no cannons firing from land either. This was the third day they'd done this. I'm guessing they were battle weary. It was still interesting to watch though.

Kind of hard to stay in the moment with planes overhead and megayachts at sea, but we got the idea.

I liked how after about 1/2 hour, someone yelled "Cease fire!" and then told all the "dead" soldiers to "Rise from the dead," and they did. If only it really worked that way.

When we left the beach, we passed the troops taking down their tents. I was going to ask them who won, but figured they'd probably heard that joke about a kazillion times. It's not easy being original anymore.
