Jeez

Now you'll recall that on Sunday, we let the cats out on the deck to see what would happen and Zura had disappeared. All day. I couldn't figure out if she'd gotten down to the main floor or not. If she had, she would have been pinned down there by a huge white & black Key's cat. Part of our floor is actually raised from the story below us (which is cool as we can clomp around and not bother anyone). This lattice work covers a large under-space that goes under 1/2 the house and under the entire deck. I had a feeling that's where she was at, but it was too dark to see. Jack was going in and out of that space without any problems, so I just wasn't sure. Later, when it poured for 2 hours, I knew she couldn't be happy, but figured she was dry somewhere. Then it was starting to get late and I was getting worried. Normally hunger will drive her out of her spot, but noooo.  She didn't even peek her head out when I called. I had even shoo'd the Key's cat away.
So after his football- game watching outing, Michael mooched a flash light and sure enough, she was squeezed as far back under the house as she could be and looked frozen in place. She didn't respond to anything that would normally woo her so we weren't sure what her problem was. Thunderstorms were on the way and we didn't want her to be out there by herself  (Jack could care less, but Zura's not a fan) so Michael took it upon himself to slide into the crawl space. It's a good thing we're little people.

You'll note Jack was helping all the way.

And then there was Zura (Jack trying to nudge her too). She had to be dragged out, but as soon as she saw the gap where the deck stairs were, she jumped out and ran into the house. It really did seem like she couldn't figure out how to get back out, but she's not normally that dense. Who knows.

Jack got to stay outside since he's not a jerk and had a good old time.

Michael was in dire need of a shower.

After which he got to sit outside and relax with the rest of us (minus Zura).

Zura really owes us because we had a lightning/thunder storm that night like I haven't experienced in years. The house was shaking, with huge kabooms that reverberated before the lightning had even faded. And it was quite a deluge. For hours. Pretty cool, actually. We'll be putting some chicken wire in the two areas the little twerp can get under the deck and then try again. I think once the furniture is out there and we're just hanging, she'll join us like a good kitty.

Get it? No...wind...
What else? There's no wind in the Keys. Maybe if you're on the ocean-side, you might feel a breeze waft across your bald spot, but otherwise it's just plain hot. I asked the guy at Ace Hardware if this changed in the winter and he said not really. The temps cool off obviously, but there still aren't any winds. Hmrph.

Why do they only make shower curtains in 72" or longer lengths? You can not get a shorter curtain to save your life. You can have different widths, no problem. You just can't go short. Yes, I can cut off the 6 inches I don't need, but I'm just curious as to whether there's a law that says the curtains must be 72" or longer. I demand options!

I also have an uncanny capability to love every single thing that is out of stock or not able to be shipped. This has been happening for days, but really? I just picked an ugly royal blue rain suit for $19.95 and it's out of stock (that color). Then I saw it on ebay and they have the color, but no size medium. Of course, I found another seller, but they're selling it for $10 more...Sheesh. This stuff takes time. I feel like those characters in the Snickers commercials.

The good? I got my replacement shuffle. Do you see, it's even engraved?! Ha - it was free, why not? I could also get a color that matched my moped. I'm not normally that anal, but this was so easy I couldn't pass it up. Of course, this means I don't have an excuse not to work out anymore.

We also finally got our boxes. I had an incredible conversation with the shipper when I called this morning and they didn't know what I was talking about. What boxes? It was a conversation worthy of a Seinfeld episode, or maybe the Twilight Zone. Finally the 3rd person I spoke with figured out the problem (they had transposed two #s on the tracking # when they put it into their system). Whatever, I'm just happy to be done with them. This should be like Christmas - we have no idea what are in the boxes anymore (that's how important the stuff was apparently).

Tomorrow I'm taking on an art project. We were left some moldy plastic chairs and rotting table, and I want to see if I can revive them. They were free so spending $10 to see if I can make them useable is nothing.

And lastly - when was the last time you heard a busy signal? I called a craft store today and got one. It took me a minute to figure out what that beeping noise was.

  1. This stuff works a treat! I actually painted some boat fenders with it (from fouled white to bright yellow) and they're like new two years later.

Home Depot or any hardware store I imagine.

    1. That's what I got! Conveniently, there's an Ace store 2 blocks from home (so I can't get lost). Red chairs and white table - now let's see if I can pull it off. Still looking for something to put around cracked table edges (glued crushed shells? Sequins?). Pretty impressive if that paint worked on fenders.
